VIVA is permitted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife (TX # SPR020-202), and the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NM # 3130) to transport injured or juvenile migratory birds to wildlife rehabilitators. There are legal and compliance issues associated with electrocution of birds protected by federal laws. To reduce these electrocutions and also to reduce subsequent power outages, VIVA developed and initiated a program to manage sites where birds and their nests are located. VIVA coordinates the bird transport with Chihuahuan Desert Wildlife Rescue.
